West Berlin NJ – The Township of Berlin has been awarded a $125,000 Neighborhood Preservation Program (NPP) grant to revitalize and improve the economic vitality of the Haddon Avenue Business District through community planning and additional public and private investment.  The goal of the grant will help improve the quality of life for New Jersey residents by assisting communities with their neighborhood revitalization efforts.

Berlin Township is one of the recipients of the Neighborhood Preservation Program award and according to Township officials the NPP grant will total over $500,000 for 5 years.  The NPP grant will help revitalize Haddon Avenue by assisting with efforts that will be designed and implemented to provide an economic boost to this viable neighborhood.  NPP will provide direct financial and technical assistance to the Township to conduct activities through local planning, code enforcement, community participation, commercial and residential property improvements.

“This has been a vision for a very long time for our town to improve the center of Haddon Avenue”, said Mayor Phyllis Magazzu. This is the start of great things for our Township.

This year marks the first time in 11 years that the State of New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has awarded NPP grants. The grant funding is part of a larger effort by the State of New Jersey to commit more resources to community revitalization programs that focus on small businesses and neighborhood improvement projects.
